FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are Prerequisite Programs?

Prerequisite Programs are the basic hygiene and operational conditions required to maintain a safe food production environment. They cover areas such as facility design, cleaning and sanitation, pest control, personal hygiene, and maintenance — and form the essential foundation of any Food Safety Management System before HACCP principles can be effectively applied.

What changed in ISO 22002-4:2025?

ISO 22002-4:2025 replaces ISO/TS 22002-4:2013 and introduces a new modular structure. Common Prerequisite Program requirements shared across all food sectors have been moved to a new foundational standard, ISO 22002-100:2025, while ISO 22002-4:2025 now focuses specifically on the requirements unique to food packaging manufacturing. The standard also elevates from a Technical Specification to a full International Standard.

Who should take this course?

This course is for food safety professionals, quality managers, FSMS coordinators, and anyone working in a food packaging manufacturing environment who needs to understand, implement, or maintain Prerequisite Programs in line with ISO 22002-4:2025.

Do I need prior knowledge of ISO 22002 to take this course?

No. The course begins with the foundational concepts before moving through all requirements clause by clause. A general understanding of food safety or packaging manufacturing operations is helpful but not required.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. A digital Certificate of Completion is issued upon successfully finishing the course.

How long do I have access to the course?

You have 24/7 on-demand access from the time of purchase. Course access is provided for 365 days.

Is this course relevant for FSSC 22000 certification?

Yes. FSSC 22000 requires organizations to implement sector-specific Prerequisite Programs in line with the ISO 22002 series. Understanding ISO 22002-4:2025 is directly relevant to any food packaging manufacturer seeking or maintaining FSSC 22000 certification.
